چکیده
In this work, a highly sensitive sensor based on silicon nitride (SiN) waveguide is proposed that can be used for gas sensing using visible light. The whole uses dioxide (SiO 2 ) cladding while the arm fluidic such as water. device loop-mirror terminated (LMT) Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), where reference exposed to SiO medium, medium leading change in refractive index of cladding. performance overall optimized by optimizing design all components structure one one. sensitivity both strip and slot types analyzed gaseous order compare their sensitivities select dimensions results highest sensitivity. Transverse-electric (TE) polarization considered study waveguide, higher founded with respect transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization. field confinement region investigated verified mode solver, optimum are obtained finite difference eigenmode time domain solvers. With length 150 μm only, achieves about 1,320 nm/RIU figure-of-merit (FOM) high 641 RIU −1 at wavelength 650 nm, which reported FOM up author’s knowledge. Higher values possible employing longer arm.

متن کاملMach–Zehnder–Fano interferometer
We introduce a concept of the Mach–Zehnder–Fano interferometer by inserting a cavity exhibiting Fano resonance into a conventional interferometer. By employing the scattering-matrix approach, we demonstrate that the transmission becomes sensitive to a position of the cavity such that an asymmetric structure exhibits a series of narrow resonances with almost perfect reflection. We discuss how to...
متن کاملPhotonic Crystal Fiber Mach-Zehnder Interferometer for Refractive Index Sensing
We report on a refractive index sensor using a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) interferometer which was realized by fusion splicing a short section of PCF (Blaze Photonics, LMA-10) between two standard single mode fibers. The fully collapsed air holes of the PCF at the spice regions allow the coupling of PCF core and cladding modes that makes a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The transmission spectru...
متن کاملRing-coupled Mach-Zehnder interferometer optimized for sensing.
We demonstrate numerically that the theoretical maximum sensitivity of a ring-coupled Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) optimized as a sensor is about 30% greater than the optimized sensitivity of a conventional single-bus ring sensor with an identical ring perimeter and loss. The ring-coupled MZI sensor also achieves its greater sensitivity with a 25% lower circulating power, which is useful f...
متن کاملRefractive index sensor using microfiber-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
A simple and robust refractive index (RI) sensor based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer has been demonstrated. A section of optical microfiber drawn from silica fiber is employed as the sensing arm. Because of the evanescent field, a slight change of the ambient RI will lead to the variation of the microfiber propagation constant, which will further change the optical length. In order to compen...
